Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About Junk Doctor

How do you charge?

We charge by volume and the cost depends on how much room the items take up. While we greatly appreciate items being in the driveway ready to load up, it is not necessary. It is easier to estimate the volume if the items are all in one area, but we will grab items from wherever they are, whether it is in the house or in the backyard.

How does your service work?

We work diligently to protect the environment by diverting as much of the material we come across from going to landfills. We do this in a few ways.

The primary way we do this is by using transfer stations instead of going direct to landfills. At transfer stations we sort out the debris into the basic raw materials such as wood, metal, plastic, glass, paper, cardboard, etc. Up to 85% of the material that comes into these facilities are recycled out, so very little makes it to the landfill.

We also utilize numerous resources around the Calgary area to get various items directly reused or repurposed. It’s far greener to reuse or repurpose an item than it is to break it down and scrap out the raw materials to be melted down, shredded, or ground up to be processed into another product. We have worked on cultivating relationships with organizations who donate items to those in need, the homeless, and domestic abuse services, etc.

What are your operating hours?

Our operating hours are designed so we are able to pick up your junk when it is convenient for you. Our hours are:

Mon-Friday: 8am – 11pm
Saturday: 9am – 7pm
Sunday: 9am – 6pm

What percentage of my trash does Junk Doctor recycle?

Junk Doctor recycles on average 70%- 80% of all the material we take in. 100% of all cardboard, asphalt, concrete, rock, brick and asphalt, dirt, manure, metal, green yard waste gets either directly reused or recycled at facilities that specialize in recycling this kind of debris.

Where does Junk Doctor go to recycle?

The majority of the debris we take in gets brought to transfer stations where the materials get sorted through and recycled out, and not to landfills where the material will sit for thousands of years.

Does Junk Doctor charge extra for separating the trash from the recycle items?

There is no extra charge for sorting out and recycling material like some other services. We aim to reuse or recycle as much as possible as a baseline.

Do you donate old furniture and appliances?

We do our best to recycle furniture and appliances but unfortunately due to the high amount of furniture and appliances being donated as people buy newer products, it is becoming harder and harder for commercial companies to donate these materials. However, the raw materials can still be reused even if the unit itself is not able to be salvaged
